Innovation Day: Bringing the Future of Security Together

Last month, SecuriGroup welcomed clients, partners and colleagues to the Glasgow Science Centre for our 2026 Innovation Day, an event focused on exploring the ideas and technologies shaping the future of security. Bringing together industry expertise, live demonstrations and thought leadership, the day created a space to share insight, spark conversation and look ahead with clarity.

Set against an iconic backdrop, our Innovation Day reflected our ongoing commitment to innovation - not just in technology, but in how we deliver services, collaborate with partners and support our clients.

A Focus on Insight and Innovation

The event featured keynote contributions from leading voices in the industry, including technology presenter Spencer Kelly and Shaun Hipgrave, Director of Protect and Prepare at the UK Home Office. Their sessions provided perspective on how technology, risk and resilience are evolving, and what this means for organisations today and in the future.

Throughout the day, guests also heard from SecuriGroup leaders, sharing our vision for an augmented security model, bringing together SIA-licensed officers with AI-enabled technology to create smarter, more responsive solutions.

Technology in Action

A key part of the day was the opportunity to experience innovation first-hand. Our partners showcased a range of technologies, from access control and CCTV to drone capability, robotics and fire detection systems - demonstrating how integrated solutions can enhance safety, efficiency and resilience.

The exhibition space created a valuable environment for meaningful conversations between clients, suppliers and operational teams - connecting ideas with real-world application.

Global Recycling Day

This Global Recycling Day, SecuriGroup is proud to highlight our continued commitment to environmentally responsible operations , particularly through the secure recycling of our end ‑ of ‑ life IT equipment.

We partner with ICT reverse, who provide free nationwide collection, certified data destruction, and secure recycling for items such as computers, laptops, monitors, mobiles, printers, and network equipment. They also maintain zero ‑ carbon ‑ footprint logistics and offer secure, cost ‑ free IT disposal for most organisations , supporting both environmental protection and data security.

Alongside IT recycling, SecuriGroup continues to:

Reduce waste through responsible disposal, reuse, and recycling - We assess goods and materials across the business to prioritise reuse and substitution wherever possible , ensuring items are only disposed of when truly necessary . When disposal is required , we recycle materials through certified waste partners to minimise environmental impact.

Operate paperless processes, with unavoidable paper fully recycled - Across our offices and operations, digital workflows have replaced traditional paper processes, from internal approvals to staff communications. Where printing is unavoidable, all paper is recycled to support a closed-loop waste system.

Host all cloud services with green hosting providers - All SecuriGroup cloud servers are now hosted with green hosting providers , ensuring our digital infrastructure operates with reduced energy usage and a lower carbon footprint.

Train our teams to strengthen sustainable practices across the business - Our teams receive training to increase awareness of responsible resource use, recycling behaviours, and the environmental impact of day-to-day decisions , ensuring sustainability is part of our culture at every level.

Caring for our planet is central to our core purpose of strengthening society. By reducing waste, conserving resources, and making greener choices each day, we help build cleaner, safer, and more resilient communities for the future.

A fantastic day celebrating our incredible people! Every single day, they do amazing things, whether it's saving lives or raising the alarm to prevent a fire and protect property. For them, this is just part of the job.

Earlier this week, we took the time to recognise and reward the individuals whose actions strengthen our communities every day, truly living our core purpose. Well done to everyone!

It was a heartwarming day, hearing from managers and colleagues who had travelled from all over the UK. Around 40 awards were presented across life-saving events, fire prevention, protest support, front-line excellence, and management support roles and more. Each award highlighted the dedication, courage, and teamwork that make our communities safer and stronger, a real reminder of the amazing people behind the job.

Neville McGlashan – Royal Albert Hall

Neville's nomination recognises his strong performance at the Royal Albert Hall, where he is known for outstanding reliability, professionalism, and client engagement. His conduct has earned significant praise from both management and clients. Neville's work contributes meaningfully to site safety, smooth daily operations, and SecuriGroup's reputation for excellence .

Youssef Vernege‑Fanus – 61 Southwark Street

Youssef was shortlisted for his exemplary customer service, professionalism, and the consistently positive feedback he receives from clients and tenants. Outstanding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative – Secure Your Path

Our Secure Your Path initiative has been shortlisted for its forward‑thinking approach to inclusive recruitment and workforce development. Lifetime Achievement Award – Allan Burnett

Widely respected, he mentored colleagues, advanced training and EDI standards, and continued contributing expertise nationally and internationally after retirement.

Shaping Futures: Celebrating Our Apprentices This National Apprenticeship Week

At SecuriGroup , apprenticeships are more than a starting point, they're a launchpad for meaningful, long-term careers. Our in‑house Apprenticeship Programme was created to offer an alternative pathway into the security industry, giving people the chance to earn while they learn, gain industry‑recognised qualifications, and build real‑world experience from day one.

We're proud to support individuals at every stage of their journey, whether they join straight from school, transition from another career, or study at university while training with us. Our apprentices go on to achieve incredible things, from becoming security trainers to winning national awards, proving that with the right support, the opportunities are endless.

Creating the first Security Apprenticeship

With the aim to tackle the security officer shortages in the sector, SecuriGroup alongside the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) and Skills for Security launched the UK's first apprenticeship for frontline security professionals. The Level 5 SVQ Apprenticeship in Providing Security Officer Services was first launched in Scotland in 2021 and is now available UK-wide. 1 The programme which was developed internally by SecuriGroup and accredited by Highfield , covers fire safety, mental health awareness, conflict management, counter terrorism and safeguarding . The programme continues to grow in popularity with hundreds of people already completing their apprenticeship and starting their career in security.

Spotlighting our Apprentices

Completing our Security Office apprenticeship can open the doors to a variety of roles in the industry, meet some of our apprentices and hear their stor ies .

Finlay McQuade – Events Steward

Finlay works as an Event Steward for our Events Department whilst completing his apprenticeship. Since joining he has demonstrated remarkable growth, quickly establishing himself as an indispensable member of the team. His commitment to professional development is evi dent through his completion of the Emergency First Aid at Work course and the Door Supervisors course, earning his SIA licence. Finlay said one of the highlights of his apprenticeship has been 'learning how to correctly diffuse situations using PI techniques, building co nfidence and real-world skills on the job ". When asked what he would say to anyone unsure about an apprenticeship, he said "my advice to anyone considering it is go for it " . Finlay was even shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year at the BSIA Awards .

Erin Burt - Security Trainer

Erin works as a Security Trainer for our in-house training academy. She demonstrates the broad and varied opportunities available with a security apprenticeship. Upon completing the programme and proudly earning her badge, Erin progressed into a new career as a Security Trainer. She credits the programme with giving her the foundation she needed to take that next step, sharing that it 'gave me the skills, confidence and experience to move into my role as a security trainer '.

Terry McJimsey - ISOC Operative

Terry is another example of the different career paths you can take after a security apprenticeship. After completing his apprenticeship, Terry began w orking as a n Operative in our Intelligence and Security Operations Centre (ISOC) , where he plays a key role in ensuring the safety and security of client assets, personnel and premises . Terry's hard work and dedication was recognised at the 2024 BSIA awards where he won Apprentice of the Year. When asked about his thoughts on the programme, Terry commented 'the apprenticeship opened the door to the security industry for me '.

Today we are spotlighting an education success story at SecuriGroup. Recently, our Specialist Service Lead, Brian McLaughlin , completed training with Intelligencia Training, the UK's most experienced provider of vocational intelligence training. The course covered areas such as Intelligence Theory, Applied Intelligence Analysis, and Communication of Intelligence Products, helping Brian refresh his knowledge, upskill, and excel within our Intelligence Department.

At SecuriGroup, we are proud to invest in our people and their education to enhance their careers. Brian joined us as a Door Supervisor several years ago and has now progressed into intelligence, a great example of how we develop talent, retain our best people, and demonstrate the importance of education in career growth.
